The legal age for marriage without parental consent is eighteen (18) years of age. The legal age, with parental consent, is sixteen (16) years of age.
Marriage licenses must be applied for in person with BOTH the prospective bride AND groom present. Applicants must provide the office with at least one (1) form of identification containing a photograph, birth date and signature. Acceptable forms of ID are: Driver's License, Passport, Military ID, Alien Registration Card, and State of Florida ID. All U.S. Citizens must also provide their Social Security Number. Those who are not U.S. citizens and/or have no Social Security number may provide an Alien Registration Card, Passport or any other form of acceptable government issued photo ID. There is no residence or citizenship status requirement.
NOTE: If either applicant has been previously married, he/she MUST provide the Clerk the DATE his/her last marriage ended by death, divorce or annulment. If that marriage ended within the last sixty (60) days, he/she must also bring proof showing how the marriage ended. (If it ended more than 60 days ago, proof is not required.)
No blood tests are required.
A marriage license is valid for 60 days after issuance. You must have the ceremony of marriage performed before the 60 days has expired.
WAITING PERIOD
Non-Florida Residents: As long as NEITHER the prospective bride nor groom is a Florida resident, there is NO WAITING PERIOD. The premarital preparation course is NOT necessary for NON-residents.
Florida Residents: If a couple has not completed a premarital preparation course from a qualified course provider, the effective date of the marriage license will be delayed three (3) days from the date of application. If only one of the couples is a Florida resident and the Florida resident takes the course, there is no waiting period. Those couples who have completed a course will have the fee reduced by $32.50 and will have no waiting period to get married.
MARRIAGE LICENSE FEE: $93.50 (not included in our services). Payment may be made to the Clerk of Court by cash, money order, personal check or credit card (there is a $2.50 additional service charge for payment by credit card).
YOU MUST BRING THE ORIGINAL FLORIDA VALID LICENSE WITH YOU TO THE CEREMONY: OBTAINING A LICENSE IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. IF YOU DON’T PRESENT THE PRESIDING OFFICIANT WITH A MARRIAGE LICENSE BEFORE YOUR WEDDING, YOU CANNOT LEGALLY BE MARRIED AT THAT TIME. THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS POLICY, PLEASE ASK US.
FILING THE LICENSE
After the ceremony, the officiant will sign the license and file it with the court for you. You will receive the court certified marriage certificate from the Clerk of Court by mail in 3-5 weeks after the wedding.
Weddings To Go is not responsible for any lost marriage license, clerical errors or Court or Post Office delays.
If you have your own officiant, that individual MUST file the license for you.
SOLEMNIZATION
A marriage may be performed by regularly ordained clergy, judiciary, State of Florida notaries, the Clerk of the Circuit Court, and Deputy Clerks.
